Frequently Asked Questions

Do your dogs live in the house with you?

Yes all my dogs are our beloved family members so every one of them live and play in our house.

Do you ever have adult schnauzers available?

No. When I retire my dogs, they are retired to the couch for a life of luxury.

How will I know if you have puppies coming?

I post as often as possible but normally post updates on social media and on this site on the Puppies Page.

Do you have a waiting list?

Yes, I do have a waiting list. Once you have decided you want to join the Starry Sky Family, I will collect your desired puppy traits (gender and color) and will contact you once I know I have puppies on the way to discuss further steps. To get on the waiting list, it is the $300 deposit that will go towards the cost of the puppy.

When is the deposit due and what is it?

Deposits are due once you know you want a puppy from me or at the time you pick out your puppy. Deposit is $300.00.

How much are your puppies?

Puppies range in prices and are based on size, color and eye color. Price are between $2500 and $3500 for limited AKC registration.

Are your dogs DNA health tested and AKC registered?

Yes, my dogs are Embark and AKC DNA tested and clear of all potential schnauzer issues, 100% schnauzer and AKC registered.

When will puppies be allowed to go home?

I do not allow puppies to go home until they have been cleared by my vet, have had their first round of vaccines and are at least 8 weeks old.

What will the puppy go home with?

All puppies go home with a new puppy pack which includes a contract, an embroidered blanket that smells like mom and littermates, record from my vet of care, shot record and deworming conducted, age appropriate toys, Royal Canin Small Breed Puppy Food sample and a coupon, my homemade dog food recipe, a brush, AKC limited papers, the option to activate a 30 free trial of Pet Insurance, and some other surprises.

What is expected before and after the puppy goes home?

As will be stated in your contract, I expect the puppy to be examined by your vet within 3 business days of picking up the puppy (this visit will only be a verification of health and to establish your puppy with your vet, no shots will be needed at that time) and a notification from you to me that all is well from your vet. I expect updates and pictures at a minimum of once a year.

Are puppies potty trained by the time they go home?

We do our best to introduce the puppies to potty training, but like all babies, there will be some that take longer than others to get the full hang of it.

Do you crate train your dogs and puppies?

Yes, my dogs are crate trained, and I do recommend all owners do the same. Dogs are den animals and need a place of their own where they feel comfortable and safe. Crate training also helps with potty training because dogs don’t like to go potty where they sleep. Puppies will be introduced to a crate at week 7, so they will be familiar with a crate.

What do the puppies and your adults eat?

All the puppies will be fed Royal Canin Small Breed Puppy dry food and canned food (a small sample will go home with the puppy). My adults all eat Royal Canin Small Breed Adult food as well as food I make for them (a recipe will go home with the puppy for if you choose to make it for them when they get a little older). All will be stated in your contract, I expect my puppies to eat healthy well-made food (a list or unacceptable food will be provided).

Do you offer puppysitting?

Yes, I do offer puppysitting for my puppies only. Arrangements will need to be made well in advance. The puppy will get to enjoy a family reunion, play time all day and if the weather permits, a fun day in the swimming pool. Families that take advantage of this offering always tell me that their puppy sleeps for like 3 days after because they had so much fun with us, some call it Camp Sansom. Cost is $35 a day.
